Lubbock Welcomes City’s 1st Dream Court

Plano, Texas — August 29, 2017 — Nancy Lieberman Charities and WorldVentures Foundation teamed with the Lubbock Police Department on August 28 to dedicate the city’s first Dream Court to foster the relationship between officers and the communities they serve. The Dream CourtsTM program builds top-quality, multipurpose play spaces in underserved communities so children have a safe area to shoot hoops, socialize and learn about teamwork and good sportsmanship.

Located at Mae Simmons Park, East 23rd and Oak Avenue, the Lubbock Dream Court is the 42nd in the nation. David Campisi, owner of Campisi’s Italian Restaurant, 4ORE!, Reagor Dykes Auto Group and First United Bank donated to the court.

"I love being apart of Nancy Lieberman Charities and WorldVentures Foundation for gifting Dream Courts around the country. Lubbock is a special place to myself, Reagor Dykes Automotive Group, 4ore! and First United Bank, because the donors and employees from each organization have attended Texas Tech University. We are proud donors for this court, and we want to leave Lubbock better than we found it. Bringing Kids and Cops together is an awesome responsibility, and we are proud to be apart of this process", said David Campisi, Campisi's Restaurant Owner.

Among the speakers was Nancy Lieberman, Nancy Lieberman Charities founder and a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer who made history in 2015 when she was hired by the Sacramento Kings, becoming only the second female assistant coach in NBA history.

Other dignitaries included Jon Caspell, assistant chief of the Lubbock Police Department; Shelia Patterson Harris of the Lubbock City Council; Bridget Faulkenberry, director of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department; and Chris Beard, head coach of men’s basketball, Texas Tech University.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, children participated in an open-court “shootaround” with Lubbock Police. Campisi’s Italian Restaurant donated refreshments.
