WorldVentures Foundation Raises $25K in Celebration of Giving Tuesday

Plano, Texas—December 2, 2016 — WorldVentures Foundation™ joined Hug It Forward for the second annual Giving Schools Day, a 24-hour campaign to raise $25,000 for the construction of a three-room bottle school in Guatemala. The fundraiser was held in celebration of Giving Tuesday, a global day of charitable giving held annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

The foundation hosted a luncheon at the WorldVentures™ headquarters in Plano, Texas, for both WorldVentures and Rovia staff. Employees contributed a nominal amount to enjoy lunch donated and catered by Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant. WorldVentures Independent Representatives also contributed by donating online and through a text-to-donate platform.

Gwyneth Lloyd, executive director of WorldVentures Foundation, announced that there will be another community bottle school constructed in 2017, thanks to the generous support of donors. This coincides with the foundation’s 2017 initiative to raise $425,000 to support the construction of 17 bottle schools in Guatemala.

“Guatemala is a country where only three of 10 children complete the sixth grade,” Lloyd added. “So these raised funds will impact some of the neediest of children.”

Since its inception in 2010, the foundation has funded 100 bottle schools in Guatemala with Hug It Forward. Bottle schools are built using “eco-bricks” — plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash — and they cost about 30 percent less than the traditional method of building Guatemalan schools with cinderblocks. Most importantly, bottle schools provide a place for the country’s rural residents to educate their children, engage the community in recycling and help to eliminate trash in neighborhoods with no waste management system.

Hug It Forward Co-Founder Zach Balle expressed, on behalf of himself and his team, his overall gratitude for the support and love made apparent through this event.

"The WorldVentures Foundation family continues to keep us motivated and inspired to bring even more educational opportunities to the children of Guatemala,” Balle said.

The campaign is ongoing and donations can be submitted online, or by texting “wvfgivetuesday” to 41444 for credit card charges or “wvf” to 80888 to add charges to your phone bill.
